The Thankfulness List

A day late, but here it goes, in no particular order:

1)  I'm thankful that Star Wars is no longer solely in the hands of George Lucas.

2)  I'm thankful I wasn't born in some place like Darfur or Rwanda.

3)  I'm thankful for superheroes.

4)  I'm thankful for the written word and martial arts, both of which have saved my life in various ways.

5)  I'm thankful for science, without which I would've died from spinal meningitis when I was two years old.

6)  I'm thankful for the fact that, though I find the idea of man-on-man sex repulsive, I live in a country where it's available for purchase on DVD pretty much within five miles of anyone's house and nobody is coming to remove your head for having it.

7)  I'm thankful that TV writers finally got their collective acts together and stopped giving us shows where the characters never evolved, and instead we now get glorious shows like Game of Thrones and Sopranos with continuity and original, rich characters.

8)  I'm thankful for PB&J sandwiches.  Have to stop and get one now.  Okay, I'm back.  Where was I?  Oh yeah...

9)  I'm thankful for Netflix, without which I may never have discovered the many joys of Doctor Who.

10)  I'm thankful to have a family in which nobody has murdered, raped, or kidnapped anybody else (this seems to be fairly rare these days).

11)  I'm thankful for the Internet--that is, I'm actually thankful for it, and I don't take it for granted or assume that it's always going to be there, or that I'm entitled to it, just that it's a wonderful piece of technology and ought to be respected as a wonderful achievement for mankind.

12)  I'm thankful that I have a girlfriend.

13)  I'm thankful that I've had girlfriends, considering what a geek I've been my whole life.

14)  I'm thankful for Jackie Chan--that man is just inspiring, and without him I wouldn't have ever discovered the many joys of martial arts.

15)  I'm thankful for Monty Python...all of them, really...but especially John Cleese.

16)  I'm thankful I'm not a snake, a worm, a mosquito, a dog, or any other creature besides a human.

17)  I'm thankful that I don't smell funny.

18)  I'm thankful that I had a great dad who raised my brother and I well after our mother died.

19)  I'm thankful for Skyrim.

20)  And lastly, I'm just thankful that I existed at all, however briefly, on this great big floating orb that's hurtling through the cosmos.
